Physalis are also called ground cherries. The berries are covered by a slightly brown, rather plain husk, containing the edible, cherry-sized fruit, which is a light orange color. The flavor is sweet-sour and very intensive. Furthermore, they score high on iron and phosphorus content. The Physalis comes from countries in South America, such as Peru, Chile or Brazil, and it can basically be acquired year-round. However, its season in Europe is mostly limited to December to June.
